In 2019, Dr Shaw was selected as the top candidate in Australia and New Zealand to commence advanced neurosurgical training. He completed his neurosurgical training across some of the largest and most prestigious neurosurgical centres in NSW including: Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Westmead Hospital and the Children's Hospital at Westmead, John Hunter and John Hunter Children's Hospitals and Liverpool Hospital.
During this time, Dr Shaw also served on the neurosurgical Surgical Education and Training board as the sole trainee representative in 2022.

After obtaining his neurosurgery fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Dr Shaw undertook further advanced clinical fellowship training in skull base and cerebrovascular surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, one of the largest academic institutions in North America.
During this time, Dr Shaw trained with the latest surgical techniques and technologies to achieve the best possible outcome for his patients. He is actively involved in bringing many of these new techniques and technologies back to Australia to better serve his patients.

Dr Shaw is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia (NSA), the Australian Medical Association (AMA), the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and the North American Skull Base Society (NASBS).
